In May 1979, the third generation model, the Volkswagen t3, after the Volkswagen T2, began to be produced at the factory in Hanover. With this generation, unlike the previous two generations, the rounded lines on the outside of the vehicle have left their place for sharper lines.

In August 1983, Volkswagen continued to refine its T3 design, which featured four rectangular headlights above the grille.
