Thanks to the political leadership’s belief in the importance of education and scientific research for a better tomorrow, the President of the Republic inaugurated the Egyptian Knowledge Bank project on November 14, 2015. The Egyptian Knowledge Bank is considered one of the largest and most comprehensive knowledge banks existing in the world due to its largest role in the knowledge, educational, cultural and research resources it contains. It is considered one of the leading projects in the world in terms of availability at the national level.

The Egyptian Knowledge Bank contains four main components / portals according to the interests of users, whether general readers of the people, young people, students or researchers, in addition to many other services that aim to spread awareness and knowledge among the people and improve the quality of education by simplifying basic sciences and enhancing Scientific research efforts and raising the quality of scientific research outputs to the level of international competitiveness.

The portal for the general readership contains local, regional and international knowledge sources in Arabic and English supported by an easy-to-use search and operation interface. Among the most prominent sources are the International Discovery Channel and the National Geographic Educational Channel, which provide many means of explaining and simplifying the various sciences in their read, audio and visual forms. It also contains the Britannica Encyclopedia. The famous public library, which provides millions of articles, videos and images in all directions of knowledge in addition to the mothers of heritage and literary books from the British Library in Arabic

For students, there is a special easy-to-use portal that contains a unified search system that is flexible to use to search in thousands of syllabuses of different sciences for university and pre-university levels, as well as reference books from major publishing houses working in this field, as well as the Britannica Encyclopedia for Students and hundreds of thousands of real and imaginary videos and images to simplify the assimilation of science from Discovery and National Geographic Channels

As for the researchers’ portal, it contains the latest discoveries of science from the largest international publishing houses and the most prestigious non-profit research societies, as it contains thousands of specialized scientific journals with high influence coefficients in various research fields, in addition to hundreds of thousands of books and general and specialized references. As well as databases and specialized research tools, which also include the Britannica Academic Encyclopedia and Educational Discovery, as well as the unified search system that is characterized by accuracy and flexibility of use and the objective browsing system for all disciplines.

The portal also came with a system to support medical decision-making in accordance with international standards and based on evidence-based medicine, as well as the expertise of specialists in support of efforts to improve health and treatment care for the Arab Republic of Egypt.

The Knowledge Bank also includes a special portal for young people supported by a simple browsing system and a distinct design for children. The portal contains many educational stories and games supported by audio-visual aids.

Establishment and implementation process

Partnership agreements include hundreds of workshops, seminars and training courses provided by the best international experts to enhance the benefit from the use of various sources and advance the outcomes of the educational process and scientific research.

The portal includes an integrated system to support documenting the knowledge and scientific content of all universities and research centers, which supports Egypt’s scientific and research memory, as follows:

1) Academic journal management system, indexing and electronic preservation

2) A conference management system, which includes the management of scientific competitions, the management of conference workshops, the management of participant registration, the management of exhibitions, and the management of publishing.

3) The Local Scientific Output Evaluation System, which is a distinct and integrated system designed for scientific bodies to monitor and evaluate their local scientific journals.

4) The system of preserving and compiling the domestic product on a national basis, as the system allows all researchers at the level of the Republic to centrally preserve and retrieve with the tight management of the system.

It is expected that the portal will provide its full services to all categories of the Egyptian people, starting from January 23, 2016
