  With smack studio you get two things. the first is a solid smash-bros like platform fighter game where you can compete with varied characters brought to life by a team of skilled artists and designers, or play casually with community created original characters and reimaginings of your favorites. the second is a feature rich studio for designing characters using a unique and intuitive bone rigging system that reinterpritates your drawing in psuedo-3D. This is used to make characters for Smack Studio of course, but I find it an amazing tool by itself. You can pose and export your rig as a sprite sheet which can then be used anywhere else. If your someone less than confident with your art skills, but you want to create, this program is right for you. It lets you do more, and do it easily and quickly. And its a hell of a lot of fun.

  More fun and more accessible than MUGEN, and the folks on the Discord are super helpful if you ever get stuck. If you've ever wanted to make your own fighting game, or even just your own fighting game characters, what are you waiting for?

  Smack Studio is a bit like Rivals of Aether, but you get so much more. I know a lot of folks played Rivals of Aether because it allows for custom characters, but creating a custom character in Rivals of Aether isn't as straight foward as it is in Smack Studio. Smack Studio comes bundled with all the tools you need to create a fully fledged custom character and the community on Discord is very helpful. As a programmer, I could immediatly see the potential within the character editor. Not only can you make animations, hitboxes and visual effects very easily, the tool also provides advanced features in the form of code blocks named "actions" these "actions" can be triggered from any animation. This game/software could easily be worth double or triple the price for what it offers. There are still limitations, but the devs are working hard on bringing new features to make Smack Studio the best it can be. Devs also take feedback very seriously and are very active on the game discord.

  It has a really large learning curve for making your own sprites because a lot of the functionality of the timeline, importing, etc is not very intuitive, there's also no in-depth tutorial on how to start from scratch, so I had to trial and error my way to get it to work. Once you learn how to do it though, it's an extremely powerful tool. This works better with larger sprites, however I still insisted on importing a small sprite just for a test, and it looked awful at first, but then I started moving the pieces and I did the animation I wanted to use, I key-framed them and then exported it as a sprite sheet and I got some amazing results. I took it into Aseprite, touched it up a lot and then I had an amazing animation loop that would've been very difficult for me to do on my own. I recommend it, just be warned, it's quite the learning curve. But worth learning it.

  So I was initially pretty skeptical of the game. I saw a Youtube short that showed it off and I remember thinking "There's no way its that simple" So I bought it and holy crap it is super simple to just make a character and go. I can't really speak much on the actual fighting aspect of the game but in terms of the character creation tool it is super well done and I am very excited to see how it improves. I have experience working in 3D modeling software so the bones and rigging wasn't very difficult for me to comprehend but there are a few things I would like to see maybe a video on in the future. -First off I think a tutorial on making a character from scratch would be really helpful since it took me a while to get that ball rolling but again I'm experienced so it didn't take long. -Second I still don't exactly know if there is a way to remove the black border on characters or not. -Lastly when it comes to the testing mode I think it would be nice to have a longer stage in the demo since I want to try and see how my combos look but the dummy falls of the stage after only 2-3 hits. Either having an option for a fully flat stage or just a longer one without platforms could be helpful. Overall I can't wait to see how this game improves and I really hope more people are able to see this because the tech in this thing is insane! And thanks to the devs for being interactive with their community here's to hoping it grows much larger for the full release.

  Insanely impressive pixel art program that could use a few QOL improvements and crashes can happen, but I can't wait to see what comes in the future, great support from the devs and community on the discord. "Wait, its a fighting game? I thought that was just to test animations..."

  The character creator is super easy to use the developer provides youtube videos that help you get started - along with further support in their discord. I only had it for 4 days and already made 2 characters. Its very seamless.

  Smack Studio delivers on exactly what it promises: A tight platform fighter with a good foundation of mechanics (including some new ones) that shines the brightest in it's character creation. The versatility and simplicity of it's character creator allows you to let your craziest ideas be realized without having to learn an entire programming language to do it. When the online multiplayer releases, I will be investing significant time in testing my wacky creations against my friends!
