  Incredibly deep 17th century captain of a ship RPG. Amazingly accessible too, jump in and learn the ropes and you'll be sailing away in no time. As mentioned great depth, tons of freedom, fun and atmosphere ooze out of this one. Very high recommendation.

  Their OLDER game (Pirates of the Caribbean) is far better in terms of game play, design, and graphics. This one is almost unplayable in comparison - I wonder if they lost the source code for it and had to start over and hacked together something worse (and out came this game and others)? So many things are badly designed in this game that I doesn't make sense to play it in the year 2020+

  Sea Dogs: City of Abandoned Ships is a massive improvement over its predecessors. Quite sophisticated and takes time to pick up, especially in the beginning, but the learning curve is much more user-friendly than in the earlier games. And while there is still barely any guidance on what the player is supposed to do, once you start playing the understanding of how the game works comes easily and naturally through exploration. The atmosphere of the Caribbean era here is probably the main point of the game, it's so engrossing I literally lost myself in it the first time I played. The abundance of various quests and the freedom to travel anywhere and do what you want meant I spent 50 hours messing around having fun, getting into brawls, looting what I could, upgrading my ship and simply being a pirate. And just when I thought I'd seen all the game had to offer I discovered I hadn't even started any of the main quest lines! My advice is to google for a walkthrough of this game to at least see the list of all the possible quests to help you get started. Once you do and with a bit of patience this becomes a wonderful time sink.

  Akella is the king of pirate games. 2nd copy bought and modded. Ive really missed COAS. Thanks for bringing this to Steam!

  The ship battles of this game is the best of any pirate games I've seen ( even over the super popular AC Black Flag)/ PROS : - Awesome ship-to-ship-battles - Big Caribbean map - Plenty of quests and secrets to make you travel and explore - High replayability : 4 nations with different questlines and territory will offer unique experiences - Enough challenge both on land at at sea. CONS : - I'm writing this in 2019. The graphics are acceptable, but some folks will certainly find it unappetizing. - Very new-player-unfriendly. The game has minimal guidance & tips, even in quest. Control-wise, you will fumble around each time you encounter new events to know what the heck you're supposed to do. Quest-wise, the logbook does help you keep track of things, but only barely enough. But once you got the hang of it, things actually feel like a true adventure. - BUGS : a well-known issue by now. Most notably, some NPCs fail to spawn to advance quests, and the only way to fix it is either load a save 2 hours ago, or apply mods before you play. NOTES : Bugs should no longer be a major pain as there are mods that fix most major and minor bugs. These are : (1) Combined mod v3.2 which fix vanilla bugs, add a few ship models and weapons and such, also some more character models for you to play. (2) Gentlemen of Fortune v1.2 : basically Combined Mod with even a helluva more stuff. Personally I've encounter a bug in this mod where all the button layout just go nuts, rendering the game unplayable. But it should be a rare occurance. Also, Steam record me having 36 minutes of gameplay. That's because I start the game through the config exe, thus somehow gameplay time is not being recorded. CONCLUSION : Get this game if you like pirateering, plundering, the pirate feel. It's hella fun. Some bugs still remain, but very few. Also, it's quite cheap. (got it at 1 USD).

  I absolutely love this game. I used to be a huge Sid Meiers' Pirates fan until i found this gem. Similar concept only better graphics, Historically accurate ships. Not the best graphics but its definitely better than SMP. Add the Gentlemen of fortunes mod and it adds more ships and immersion. Always find myself coming back to this one. Would Highly recommend for Low end PC owners who are swashbucklers at heart.
