Return to Castle Wolfenstein is basically THE “I borrowed this game from a friend.” Game. You once again play as William “B.J.” Blazkowicz, sent in to stop those cuhraaaazy Nazis from messing with the occult and probably summoning the dead or something. RTCW is another game I had a lot of experience with back in the day, especially the multiplayer. The single player starts out in the same vein as Wolfenstein 3D, with Blazkowicz escaping a prison cell before torture with nothing but a Luger and a knife. Return to Castle Sniffenscratch runs on the Id Tech 3 engine, the same one they used for Quake III: Arena and Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force. It still looks good, especially for the time, and you get a bunch of neat little effects like shading and dynamic shadows. Oh baby those 2002 dynamic shadows. You have an assortment of weapons to play with, ranging anywhere from standard WW2 pistols and sub-machine guns, to more wacky Nazi super science like a chain gun that blows people up and a testla gun. There isn't much for crunch when shooting at enemies, however, unless you get a chance to blow them up. You do, however, kill most things with a well place head shot, so you can at least start pulling off some rootin' tootin' trick shootin' if you got the aim for it. One of the big draws to Return to Castle Chocula was the multiplayer. Which is funnily, deader than Hitler. But back in the day it was pretty poppin'. You played as either Allies or Axis and had a set number of objectives to complete, ranging from escorting an important item or destroying a defensive structure. The Allies would attack and the Axis would defend. It was also surprisingly enough a class based multiplayer instead of the usual arena deathmatch style like Quake III or Unreal Tournament. It actually reminds me of Conker's Bad Fur Day's multiplayer, or at least the Tediz vs Squirrel High Command mode. I'm pretty sure Return to Castle Dog Mug inspired the multiplayer for Conker's Live and Reloaded, but I have no way to actually confirm that. Mostly because lead designer: Chris Saevor won't return my calls or answer his door. There are more ways to play Return to Castle Huff'n'Puff than this version however. There is also an Xbox port that was ludicrously popular when it first came out, it also came with an extra chapter where B.J. went to Egypt. There was also a PS2 port but I don't care. If you're like me, and hurting to play the multiplayer, however, then you're looking in the wrong place. Most people who played Return to Castle Nintendo moved on to Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, a free multiplayer only spin off to RTCW. It's still kind of sort of active, so you can at least get a half decent game going to quench that mighty need and go back to playing puzzle pirates or whatever it is you do on your free time. Go play RTCW, you'll probably like it. Or don't, I'm not your dad. It's aged well, or at least to me, but I haven't really left 2003 mentally, so you shouldn't listen to me on the subject. Actually, do listen to me, I'm great. Return to Castle Shootin'Snatch gets Twelve strange robot Nazis out of fifteen. Polar bears are left-handed. A classic for sure. My personal favorite WWII game....it's historically accurate in my book. Play If: You love shooting nazis, love shooting zombies, love ID games, are in love with old school shooters Don't Play If: You need shooters to be more "modern", need amazing graphics (in its defense this game was a graphical masterpiece in its day), like historically accurate WWII games, think shooters need regenerating health

Return to Castle Wolfenstien has been my favorite game every since I found my dad playing it when I was little. I would sit on his lap and watch him play. I've mastered this game and played custom maps or mods I even played with HD textures. This game has been my one time favorite I used to own it on disk or downloaded I geuss until one day I got this game on steam and now I have played it for a very long time. So I'd recommend you try this game out.

Powered by id's Quake 3 technology and released in 2001, Gray Matter's Return to Castle Wolfenstein features a tremendous campaign spanning over 25 levels across numerous missions. Soaking rich in atmosphere and modded to support current widescreen resolutions, the campaign is an excellent precursor to 2014's Wolfenstein A New Order. Despite it's age the game plays perfectly. Combat at times is brutal and difficult. The AI is a great challenge and surpasses many a modern title. Weapons are inventive and feature what be may be the most well implemented chain gun ever to grace a video game. The game falls far short of New Order's stealth mechanics but the combat is so over the top satisfying that I doubt anyone would notice. Gray Matter Interactive developed Return to Castle Wolfenstein. The studio was acquired by Activision in 2002 and later merged into Treyarch of Call of Duty fame. Return to Castle Wolfenstein; a true classic, a phenomenal FPS that has aged well and plays well on modern systems.

I was so disappointed over the new Youngblood installment in the Wolfenstein series I decided to buy (for the whole 2 dollars) this game which I hadn't played in I'm guessing 15 years approx. Pretty sad when (with the exception of graphics) a game from 2001 mops the floor with one from 2019 in the same series.

Fast, bloody, and bloody brilliant. RtCW is a fantastic blend of fast-paced shooter action, stealth and exploration. Levels are huge and offer many secrets and the occasional puzzle, enemies are tough, fairly intelligent and come in many varieties. Missions vary from all-out assault to sneaking around and stabbing guards in the back. I could go on, but really if you like your classic fast paced FPS action games like Doom or Duke Nukem but also appeciate a bit of stealth then you should really take a look at this.
