(This will partly serve as an outline for the entire game.) So...I just finished the new entire campaign (yes, about 5 hours after release), and so far this feels like a lukewarm experience. If you liked the base game, it's good fun, but if it left you wanting more, this DLC doesn't fully scratch that itch and mostly suffers from the same problems. The new world is vibrant and has the seeds of a very interesting story planted somewhere in there, but the soil is dry and unwelcoming. Story spoilers below, while trying not to go into TOO much detail.
The new world is great, the added lore is also great, a lot of things are explained, but in the end the main antagonist is the least interesting part of the story. Ford, the person you spent more or less tailing in the main game, gets a small nod and nothing else. Ward 13 seems to get little to zero new dialogue. The fairly well featured Shadow of the Colossus fellow from the trailer barely gets 4-5 minutes of screentime, same for Subject 2923. All this culminates in a "YOU ARE SAVIOR" ending which feels in many ways less justified than in the original, and that wasn't a particular high bar to begin with (so, going from what seemed like killing the source of the root on Earth in the base game to killing the ACTUAL source of the root which actually ISN'T the source of the root but essentially a cackling minion, AAARGH). TL;DR, if you wanted to know how RHOM deals with the death or rule of the Undying King, how the conflict on Yaesha ended, how Ward 13 is going to be rebuilt, how the culture of the new world or the subtle Nordic tones it displays will be shaped by your actions...Heck, even if you stand a true chance against the source of the ROOT, you're out of luck. Why did I mention all these things, even if some are unrelated? Because this is meant to be the final DLC.
So, why the positive review? Because the gameplay is still great, the core loop is still engaging, the new mechanics are pretty well thought out and personally I haven't encountered any bugs. It's been a very smooth release and what you get is enjoyable, even if there's not all that much of it. There's definitely more added content than before, but the game still feels far from complete. I just wish the devs had more $$$, there's quite a bit of storytelling through text (all of it great in my opinion) and a bit through some cutscenes...which is not so great. If the game had the same level of passion I feel from it and the budget of a AAA studio, it would have surpased its "Soulsborne" roots (heh). The way it stands now I see it filling a mostly untapped niche, but doomed to decay into obscurity with time, and it deserves way more than that.

So this is an odd review. As i am recommending this game, the new dlc falls short... They advertise it as "the biggest and final dlc", but in my opinion, it didnt really feel all that big. As far as the storyline goes, it may as well be non existent. Theres probably a few recordings and logs that kinda explain what happened at ward prime, and a very limited few dialogues that even have to do with any type of actual story in reisum. And after wandering this "large" expansion, you're at the boss within a few hours. I've seen people saying it takes 8-10hrs to fully complete, but my first playthrough was about 4-1/2 to 5hrs. And i spent about an hour of that in ward prime trying to figure out the puzzles and where to go and what to do. And now that i know everything i do, id say you could run thru the campaign in way less time. Easily could be ran thru in probably 2-3 hours. As far as weapons and rings etc. They did add some nice stuff. However, it wont take you many playthoughs to get all of it. This dlc has the smallest events/bosses out of all the different locations, and only one world boss. And most of the new gear, mods, and weapons you obtain, are just not up to par. And with maybe 1 or 2 exceptions, I found myself still using the same gear sets, and still using my go tos as far as weapons, rings, amulets, and mods. The largest part of this dlc is probably just the map size along with ward prime. And yes it is a cool new landscape, with new enemies, but its also lacking hard as far as actual content. The fights are somewhat challenging at first, being that you dont know the mechanics of the fight at said time. But it wont take more than a couple or a few tries to beat them. That can also be said for the endgame boss. At first i thought the fight was super difficult, but then i figured it out after like 2 tries and it ended up being a breeze. I would honestly argue, that the swamps of corsus dlc was a lot better. And again, this is an odd review because i still do recommend and love this game! Im just speaking on this new dlc. Its enjoyable, but again very underwhelming. Especially after a few adventure playthoughs, it definitely left me wanting more. But dont let this review deter you from playing the game if you havent. With the pre patch, they buffed/nerfed and reworked a lot of the gear sets which makes a lot more options viable. The new dlc should make the survival a lot less repetitive. But specifically for those who are new, there is tons of replay value in this game as a whole. And as a whole the game is still great! So for a dlc thats only 10 bucks, you really cant go wrong here. But dont expect it to be the best and biggest dlc ever...It's not lol. Grab your friends, grab a 6 pack, grind out some new gear, and enjoy the new content! :D

Should have been part of the base game. The root didn't have enough fleshed out interactions and they were by far the coolest faction to fight - especially being on a ruined earth playing field. Get it on sale or not at all. I only bought this to enjoy more of the root storyline. Really annoying that I had to pay extra though,

Looking back, my opinion towards this DLC has mellowed out a bit. While I still think it's the weaker DLC of the two (in terms of quality), it's really not as annoying as I thought it was when I wrote this. Do you like Remnant in spite of its flaws? You should, and if you do, then you'll probably enjoy this DLC. It really is just more Remnant. All the good and all the bad. You shoot some guys, you roll around, you kill some bosses, you collect all sorts of cool equipment you'll never use. Is it jank, and buggy, and quite imperfect? For sure, but if you made it this far, that clearly wasn't a dealbreaker for you. Yes, Reisum is still my least favorite world. I still don't find it visually interesting, and I still think it has some of the most obnoxious enemies in the entire game. But the repetition I cited really isn't much different from the rest of Remnant - it's just that it FELT more repetitive because I was enjoying it less. And maybe you'll actually enjoy it more, who knows? Maybe you like snowy areas. Or maybe you like to smash a lot of boxes. Or maybe you like ninja rats because you're a gross furry. Yes, some of the bosses are still truly ass. Tian is a right fucker, Brudvaak & Vargr are too spongy, and Erfor is plain forgettable. But Subject 2923 also offers some of the most mechanically interesting bosses, none of which with adds - Ikro and Obryk are uniquely challenging, and are much more... insistent... that you learn their mechanics, instead of just rolling over and letting you kill them first try. The final boss is quite good as well. I wouldn't say that all of them are entirely "fair and balanced", but they're fun, and not really that offensive if you actually know what you're doing. Yes, bugs are still present. Hitting 0 HP in some areas in co-op will just outright kill you, instead of knocking you down. Screen-obscuring visual effects don't disappear properly at times. Some of the bosses will just "go afk" on you mid-fight, sometimes never returning. There's a necklace you can pick up that, if equipped in co-op (and you're not the host), will inexplicably leave you in the downed state after being revived. The list goes on. Ward Prime, which I praised before, still earns my favor for being an interesting puzzle.... the first time. Going through it again for the 47th time trying to help out some lost random isn't so interesting. I really wish there was a way to speedrun it more quickly on subsequent attempts. With all those things said, I still think this DLC is worth it. For all the things that suck about Reisum, it's hard not to enjoy yourself playing it. You can't really go wrong with more items, more enemies, and more things to do to in a game that's uniquely great already. Stuff like this really makes me wish for a "neutral" vote of some sort on Steam. I'll recommend it because it's more content for such a good game, but I had to heavily deliberate whether to recommend Subject 2923. I would say buy it on sale for $6 or less, since the only real reason I'm giving it a thumbs up is because it's "more Remnant", in spite of the fact that it's hardly more interesting than watching paint dry. It manages to be an even worse value proposition than Swamps of Corsus, which had half of its content integrated into the base game after its launch. The bad: - Reisum is visually repetitive, with absolutely nothing interesting to offer. This is ESPECIALLY true of the mines dungeons, where the tileset is very limited. I had to enter three (3!!!!) of these things in the same campaign, and they all were the exact same thing, just reordered. The world is also long, about 1.5x the length of a base game world (I think?). I would have just preferred two shorter worlds to break up the monotony. For something that's basically the main attraction of the DLC, it feels incredibly half-assed. - The bosses were, as a whole, insufferable. It's like they took a look at the bosses they made in Swamps of Corsus, said "How can good exist without the bad?", and made these rat shitheads to balance it out. - The enemy types were not particularly enjoyable. Getting ganked by rats is a guaranteed constant, and nearly every elite type is designed to be as annoying as physically possible. - And just when I thought this pile of crap couldn't get any larger: there's apparently also a bug where the screen-frosting effect doesn't wear off, even between zones, which I had the pleasure of experiencing in survival mode. The good: - New stuff. New weapons, and traits, and trinkets, all of which you can add to your collection of stuff you'll probably never use but are gonna keep anyways. - Ward Prime is very puzzle-based. I happened to like this but I can understand how this might be downside for some. It's like the SMG Puzzle in Ward 13 but much longer. - The final boss was pretty fun I thought. Might be very difficult if not running a tank build though. - It's more content for Remnant. What more can I say. Despite my wholehearted disdain for the entirety of Reisum (you know, the whole point of the DLC?), I managed to enjoy myself because this game is simply awesome.

So far a really good DLC. I've already finished it once, and it truly looks like they listened to player feedback. Compared to most other bosses, most of the bosses in this dlc are actually difficult / enjoyable by themselves and do not have unnecessary adds/mobs added to them to "increase difficulty / ammo pickups". Which makes the boss design way better by default. Also, there's actually new biomes, enemies, traits and lots of new items - making this perfectly worth its price. Very high quality for a 10 euro DLC in my opinion. Currently there are a few bugs, mainly small 0.5 second freezes during the final boss fight, which are annoying. However, due to the fact that the developers are actually active within the discord community, I could see those issues getting fixed sometime soon.
