LISA: The Painful Funciones

A game about survival, sacrifice, and perverts...

Lisa is a quirky side-scrolling RPG set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Beneath the charming and funny exterior is a world full of disgust and moral destruction. Players will learn what kind of person they are by being FORCED to make choices. These choices permanently effect the game play. If you want to save a party member from death, you will have to sacrifice the strength of your character. Whether it's taking a beating for them, or chopping off limbs, or some other inhuman way. You will learn that in this world being selfish and heartless is the only way to survive...

FEATURES:

- Visible character sacrifices that effect your stats (removing arms, eyes, scratches)

- Recruiting 30+ new party members in towns and camps.

- Ruthless choices that permanently effect towns, characters, life...

- White knuckle shopping cart races.

- Expending party members in Russian Roulette for huge profit, but perma-death if they lose.

- Countless hidden secrets in the world for you to explore.

- A life ruining gaming experience.

before going into this game, make sure to never look up or willingly spoil the contents of this game, as shock and surprise are its biggest and most impactful assets. this game is a roller coaster of emotion with little to no steady points, and the way it constantly one-ups itself with even crazier and more unhinged scenarios is impeccable. go in blind.

I just finished Austin Jorgenson's LISA and can say that, without a doubt, it is among the strongest indie RPGs I have ever played. I was hooked on the world of LISA with the slight taste given by the prequel, LISA: The First, which had me eagerly awaiting this title. The developer cites Mother as a key influence and that shows, but even more than the abstract game OFF, LISA has taken the wacky humor and surreal style of Mother into a dark and very adult place. Dingaling is able to take simple, old school pixels and work them into truly disturbing imagery. Lately, we have been inundated with post-apocalyptic settings that are xeroxed and re-sampled at will: zombies, plague, fallout and bad weather. All of those settings, done to death, are fairly grim, but none of them can even touch the misery suggested by LISA. Here we have a world where women are extinct and the surviving men, seeing no future for humanity, have transformed the society into a sort of prison yard where hopelessness is drowned in drugs and alcohol, and memories seem uniformly sad. The main protagonist, Brad, is driven by a past filled with abuse and grief, and literally sets himself against the will of the entire world. The player will be forced to make tough decisions in this game and to eventually think about and judge the outcome. Even as we laugh at sight gags and endless pro wrestling references, one cannot ignore the uneasy slithering quality of LISA. My greatest hope is that the game does well and Dingaling games develops more titles where the heart of the game is a great story, not the ability to snipe someone in multiplayer. Bravo!

If you've just gone through a bad breakup, lost a loved one, had a pet die, or are otherwise in a bad place, this is what you need to do: 1) Set aside 15-ish hours of your life where you won't be disturbed. 2) prepare some light, bland meals and drinks for those 15 hours. 3) Play LISA. No breaks. No interruptions. No contact with the outside world for any reason. It isn't going to make anything feel better, if anything it'll make you feel worse. But as you feel the inside of your soul rusting and peeling, you may find some shreds of catharsis. There are jokes, placed like a breadcrumb trail, to keep you holding on just so long to see what is going to happen to the sad, sad man you're spending your time with. At some point you may hit a wall and consider giving up. Don't. I played through the first 3-ish acts of this game, and then put it down for a year, and it still punched me in the gut when I went and finished it. I can't imagine how unpleasant it'll be to play it straight through. But why am I telling you to play a game that makes you feel awful? Very simple: for the same reason that a cultured individual should watch Irreversible, or Come and See, or Magnolia or Requiem for a Dream, or read Exquisite Corpse or Funeral RItes. Because it's a stunning, beautiful piece of art, and sometimes, it's healthy to expose yourself to complicated, unpleasant, scary feelings. You will come out the other side purged. Once you're done 1) Have a shower 2) Make some tea 3) Call your parents and tell them you love them The only game that made me feel worse than LISA was probably Demonophobia, and I stopped playing that after twenty minutes when I realised that people were supposed to be getting off on it.

Holy crap. Powerful. This game explores some serious life issues: Abuse. The pain of childhood, and of parenthood. Manhood and womanhood. Strength. Loss. This game had me near crying at several points. The story is freaking powerful. It's also remarkably well written, and downright hilarious at times. And the gameplay? It's fun enough that I want to play through it again right after beating it. This turn-based RPG is sometimes brutally difficult, in part because it slaps many old-school conventions in the face (e.g., sleeping can be dangerous). Battles are challenging. Tactical thinking is essential since many enemies are VERY dangerous and you're frequently outnumbered. I really applaud the AI as it keeps you on your toes. The game doesn't hold your hand. There is no map, compass, or any attempt to make navigation easier. You just have to remember your way around, though there are plenty of memorable environments. Characters will force you to make decisions with lasting consequences. There are dozens of hard choices to make along the journey, which brings me to another topic the game explores: decision. Will you save your friends, or your stuff? I got very attached to the buddies I picked up, only to have them devoured by a mutant, or bail on me when I least expected it. You just never know what you'll face, nor what to choose. Thinking back to many of those times, I don't know what I should have done. All the options sucked. But I can't help asking myself, "Did I make the right choice?" Highly recommended.

I'm not going to extensively rate the aspects of this game, it's just-- After playing for almost 10 hours, it's still not over, yet the gameplay or atmosphere don't feel stale. The world of the game is relatively big, but it feels enormous due to the amount of things you can do. I don't understand. How can a cheap RPGmaker game achieve that? How much time hard work was poured into it? It's mind-boggling. Almost every joke is placed with surgical precision into the story, providing fresh and morbid experience for the player. Art is the perfect tie-in, amplifying the tone of this game to suit the narrative. And, most of all, the gameplay feels smooth. Smooooth. Without doubt, it draws inspiration from Mother games. I'd call it "LISA: "Earthboud" for crude and rude adults." And I like it.

I was walking around and found a guy named “Nern” he talked for 30 minutes and talked about his wonders and days. Then he joined my party just to only do 20 dmg and my party was wiped by some disfigured human who’s limbs were turn upside down. I really enjoy the game and I think you should talk with “Nern” for a life -changing experience.
