THE FIRST GAME TO SELL 862 SCARLETRILLION DOLLARS RAAAGGGHHHHHHHHHH

This would probably be passable as a meme game (Like their previous touhou related lineup that I actually liked as a fun simple visual novel) but as a 8 dollar purchase advertised as a real product? hell nah. This would be passable for maybe 3-4 bucks at best. The first 2 levels are just enemy spam, the only viable way to deal with them is to just pop the watch and run to the exit, the bosses are bullet sponges with 1-2 attacks total that one shot you if you so much as get slightly grazed in the toe by them. The other enemies kinda just shit out bullets with no other substance, the way you fight all of them is the same: you walk away and snipe them from afar. As running in guns blazing isn't viable at all. All the levels feel the same, you got the outside ones and the mansion ones. That's it, same general feel. The weapons feel pretty good to use, each one having it's own use, but there's only 3 of them, making that feel limited. The levels are really short, even with taking your time its around 2-3 minutes per level, and considering there's only 7 normal levels that isn't a lot. As much as I hate leaving negative stuff, this ain't it chief. I can cut some slack for it being their first doom mod and game that isn't a visual novel. But I have to have some standards if its something I'm paying for.

The game is fundamentally broken. There's 3 weapons and only one of them is useful. Once you get the knives, you can hide behind walls and kill all the enemies in the room without entering and you can even do this to the second boss. The first and third bosses are half assed attempts at making a Touhou boss fight in 3D, which does not translate well on the Doom engine. You can cheese the first few levels by using Sakuya's stopwatch to freeze time and then run to the end, it sometimes tricks GZDoom into believing you actually killed enemies. Speaking of enemies, they are all garbage reskins of classic doom enemies and the dev didn't even bother removing the original Doom death messages from the game. So when you are killed by Wriggle Nightbug, it will say you were killed by a revenant instead lel. Sigyaad Team really needed to hold off on releasing this game, or release it on DoomWorld for free, because it's really not good. Not every GZDoom wad project deserves to go on Steam, this isn't Hedon. This game is not worth 7 dollars. It's not even worth 1 dollar. 2/10.

This was definitely an attempt at a Touhou-themed FPS if I've ever seen one, and it's in the GZDOOM engine nonetheless. I got a lot to say, so I just categorized this into different sections. ======================================= = Controls & Mechanics = ======================================= For starters, Controls feel fine, but that's par for the course given this is in the GZDOOM engine. By default, Sakuya has auto-sprinting turned on, and it's much better that way, given the fast pace nature of this game. However, because of this, I do think the game definitely needed faster weapon swapping 'cuz the time it takes to move from like a pistol to a shotgun. The issue that comes from this is that it gives enemies enough room to dish out damage before you can give any of it back. ======================================= = Weapons = ======================================= With the small selection of weapons, I do think the variety is great and the quality of them damn good. ---------------| Pistol |--------------- A starter weapon too great, it outclasses the other weapons in most scenarios. I do think the ammo count being high does lead to spam abuse without any consequences and is easily why the weapon is overpowered. ---------------| Shotgun |--------------- A great shotgun that has an alternate fire mode that shoots 2 quick bursts consecutively. Similar to the pistol, the ammo count on this one is really high, but spam abuse is less likely to happen given the reload time of this weapon prevents that from happening in most cases. ---------------| Stopwatch |--------------- A fine weapon for saving yourself from a tough situation, but I only ever used this once in the second stage and never needed it again since it's not a necessity. I do think the weapon would've been better off as an item, especially since you only get one-use out of it per stage. ---------------| Knives |--------------- The rebounding on these knives are pretty overpowered and probably should've been toned down since they can rebound infinitely. But similar to the stopwatch, I hardly ever used this as the pistol was already a more viable option, and forgot about this for a good chunk of the game. It also doesn't help you get it very late as well. ======================================= = Level Design = ======================================= The levels felt all over the place in terms of length and quality. A lot of them felt very short and undercooked, and the difficulty of each of them could range from okay to pretty frustrating (though it was more of the latter), and there's no real difficulty curve because of that. Some of the levels also have very wide rooms with hardly much and can make the environments feel very dull at times, but most of the time, they're not bad. The last level before Remilia's fight though SUCKS!! It's an elevator sequence where you fight waves of enemies, and it's SO... FREAKING... LONG!!! Doesn't help that the enemy patterns that spawn on the elevator get so repetitive and annoying very quickly. ======================================= = Enemies = ======================================= The enemies aren't okay at best. There is a small selection of them, which makes combat sometimes feel repetitive because you'll be dealing with the same few enemies throughout the game. Rumia's easily the most annoying of the bunch. Basically, she's a reskinned Lost Soul (from Doom) but her speed is cranked up to 11. She moves incredibly fast which makes aiming for her incredibly tough. The pistol was essentially the most viable solution to dealing with her in most scenarios. The other enemies though weren't as bad as Rumia, but still sometimes annoying to deal with. Because of this, I mostly tried treating this as a cover shooter until the endgame. ======================================= = Boss Fights = ======================================= The bosses... oh man the bosses. ---------------| Boss 1: Meiling |--------------- I'd say she's the hardest fight in the game. I mainly say this because the arena you fight in is small, and you have way too little space to move around and dodge her attacks. ---------------| Boss 2: Patchouli |--------------- A massive contrast to Meiling's fight as she's a total pushover. She can be stunlocked without much effort at all. ---------------| Boss 3: Remilia |--------------- Probably the best fight in the game, but that's not saying much given her knife attack is way too fast to dodge and her moves are not that well telegraphed at all. All these bosses have a ton of health and deal a ton of damage. It doesn't help that you could die to these half-way through the fight and have to restart from the very beginning because you slipped up on two patterns. ======================================= = Art & Graphics = ======================================= The art in this game is pretty cute, honestly, especially the boss sprites. The environment textures also look really nice and heavily detailed while still feeling very retro, despite what I said in the 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 section about levels feeling dull at times. Nothing ever came across as indistinguishable at all. ======================================= = Music = ======================================= The music kinda sucks though. It sounds very MIDI, which is funny 'cuz the keys for all the songs were based off the MIDI versions heard in Touhou 6. Instrumentation sounds very off, and the mixing could've been better. ======================================= = Game Length = ======================================= The game's length is also really short. You can finish this in a good half-hour if you know what you're doing. But if you're struggling with the levels, expect that time to double at the very least. ************************************************** *** FINAL OPINIONS *** ************************************************** Overall, I didn't enjoy this one, even as a big Touhou 6 fan. I can only recommend this game to the most die-hard Touhou / FPS fans. I respect the effort Sigyaad put into this as it shows (regardless of my criticisms), but it just didn't click with me. If you enjoy it though, more power to you!

I hate to do this, because from the screenshots and videos I saw, this looked like a fantastic game. I mean, it's Doom and Touhou combined into one. Luna Nights showed us how great Time Manipulation was as a gameplay mechanic. How could it go wrong? Oh yeah, it's "Babby's First Doom WAD, only it's being sold as a commercial product." That's how. Again, I hate being mean here, but this is being sold for money. The fact that there are literally thousands of Doom WADs out there that are not only of much higher quality, but are free is just taking the piss. Let's go over some quick points shall we... PROS <*>The art direction is fantastic. I legitimately want someone to rip out the code and sprite assets so we can play as Sakuya in virtually any Doom WAD. <*>The music appears to be MIDIs straight from EoSD ran through some different sound fonts. Seems like little effort was made to create unique arrangements for the music, but it's Touhou music so it's still very good. ...That's unfortunately where the good stuff ends. CONS <*>Several levels begin with enemies aggro'd on you as soon as the level starts, most notably the very first level. As soon as you hit "New Game," enemies will be hounding you before you've even taken a look around. The first level should ease the player by giving them some time to make adjustments to the controls, as I had to frantically gun down about a dozen fairies while being unable to aim due to the sensitivity being set too high by default. Giving me some free space at the start to stretch my legs and get my bearings would've eliminated that headache completely. <*>Speaking of enemies that are instantly aggro'd, the first boss, Meiling, will instantly start her fight by throwing bullets at you from a short range. Oh, and every boss attack is instant death. Couple that with a small arena to fight her in, and she's easily the hardest boss in the game. <*>The level design is, as I so-eloquently put it earlier, "Babby's First Doom WAD"-tier, so it's incredibly basic for such a versatile engine. There is almost no point in the game that takes good advantage of the Doom engine's strength -- that is, elevation -- so it feels more like you're playing 1995's Rise of the Triad as opposed to Doom. Rather than constructing areas that feel like lived in spaces, you're treated to corridors with a single texture repeated on every wall. It's a real shame, because the Scarlet Devil Mansion is such a beautiful locale in-universe that would be ripe for excellent level design in a Doom WAD. Unfortunately, that was not executed here. <*>On the subject of level design sins, Level 2 is literally "NUTS.WAD, but with Touhou fairies." The only viable strategy I found was to grab the Luna Dial and just bolt to the Level End Sector. What an absolute waste of a level that I paid for. <*>There are no healing power-ups outside of full heals at the start of each level, and the weapon pick-ups give you far more ammo than you'll ever need through-out the twenty-or-so minutes it takes to beat this game. On top of that, every weapon is given to you at the start of each level, meaning that there is absolutely no value in exploring to scavenge for resources (not that there's anything to explore...) <*>Compounding the issue of the lack of healing items is the fact that the damage scaling is through the roof. As mention, all bosses are one-hit-kills, but the average fairy isn't too far off from that either. <*>There's a distinct lack of polish with the enemies. Enemy attacks don't have sounds for firing or impact, nor any impact animations. All of their animations look like they're playing far too quickly, making them look ridiculous. <*>This isn't really a "con" per-se, but it highlights the undercooked nature of this game: I found an exploit with the shotgun. It's a quad barrel with two firing modes. Primary fires all four barrels, making Sakuya reload every barrel with each shot, while Secondary fires one barrel at a time, and she reloads after every fourth shot. Sounds reasonable, until you realize that the Primary doesn't take into account how many "shells" are still in the gun, meaning that the best way to use it is to count 3 shots with the Secondary and then hit Primary on the last shot. The devs say that there's more content coming down the pipeline, which is a step in the right direction. The game has a solid foundation. As I said, it's got great art design, and it's friggin' Doom. Frankly, the devs should completely scrap all the levels presently in the game and create new ones that are much-more appropriate for a commercial release. As the game is presently, however, it's a very hollow experience that not even the phrase "It's Doom with Touhou" can save.

I feel like I am just saying what others have said already, but this is fucking lazy and uninspired. The first two levels, you know typically your first impressions of a game to get you hooked, are just essentially straight lines with massive enemy spam (one figuratively is, the other LITERALLY IS). 3rd stage is your first boss that can kill you if you even get grazed by a single shot, which can be beat quite easily with time stop but its... just not fun. I stopped after the 3rd boss, maybe the game gets better but I highly doubt it. This makes really some fundamental mistakes, its neither a good Touhou spoof nor a good doom spoof. There are several Doom.wads you can play for free that are many times better than this, this should have been in the oven for a lot longer to mature. It wouldn't even pass as a good meme game which are normally free. Supposedly this is happening, devs say more content will be coming. But I am not going to hold out for that, I'll revisit it when I see some actual results. This feels beyond phoned in, on a rotary phone with half its wires frayed.

This game does nothing right at all except for the art. Level design is like the blood and soul of many games and this game aims to make the level design bad at all costs. They feel shallow, no true detail in many of them and they're all extremely short with no real aim to what identity the game is trying to even have. Enemy placement felt like the equivalent of knocking the trashcan down and just placing enemies where the napkins and food scraps are, it's raw and had zero thought put in. Texture warping in many places is easy to point out, the design of the decorations is nice but is used poorly along with them not being aligned well to any degree. The resources in this game are a joke since they're thrown at you on every level and you always have max ammo at the start, you will never run out of shotgun and pistol ammo and you have more knives than you ever need. This can result in bosses being worthless since you can time stop twice and just kill them easily. Enemies are very basic and not special, especially since they're not put anywhere meaningful or used in any meaningful way as stated before. There's little variety to them and they don't present a challenge unless all you do is spam them everywhere, which is what I believe the dev did since that's all this game is. There's like three fairies, Rumia, Wriggle, and Suika. Speaking of enemies the bosses are not that enjoyable. Meiling stems from an arena that's too small and with an elevation that may kill your movement, Patchouli suffers from knives since they're broken, and Remilia is just meh with terrible bullet patterns. All of these don't feel like challenges of your skill and more so how to break the game and slide through them. Weapons are too OP in this game. The pistol kills common fairies in an instant and is super fast and powerful, the shotgun is worthless due to the reload speed, and the knives are the most broken item in this game. The shotgun also has this second firing mode where you shoot one of the barrels but if you just stand still you can fire it endlessly which is great for killing bosses when you use the stopwatch as well. Knives are the best weapon in the game no doubt, the fact they bounce off the wall and do crazy damage makes them the go-to no matter what, they also do amazing damage against the bosses. The game also has a story, but it also fails at making sense at the end. While I won't spoil it, it boggles the mind. I'm surprised that this is sold for 8 dollars USD and that's too much for something with little content and little replay value. If you're reading this then don't buy it as a joke at all, and those who are just enjoying it for how it is, then I am happy for you, you got something out of this more than others. But, I implore you to take a second to see what the game is, and ask yourself if this is worth the price you are paying for.
