  A masterpiece of fps shooters, the beginning of Valve what made Valve, by putting a lot of effort on the gameplay and the graphics and adding something different and unusual than most of the common fps shooter of the era. The beginning of the GoldSource Engine that it was used on many games of late 90's and early 2000's, the beginning of the most popular mods that we still see today like Counter Strike and Team Fortress, without this game it wouldn't be the same videogame industry. Thanks Valve for bringing the best game. Forever Raising the Bar

  Half-Life is a 1998 classic that still holds up pretty well to this day. This is Valve's debut title that started it all and oh boy what a masterpiece to debut with. There is a reason this game has so many dang awards. The game can give you a pretty good challenge on Hard difficulty, which is to be expected with a game made around this era. The random events that happen in the middle of the levels add immensely to the situation you find yourself in, and I found the way the game does its cutscenes to be interesting for a almost 25 year old game. As expected from a game made in 1998, the graphics are horrible in today's standards. There is a fanmade creation called Black Mesa that I would recommend if your interested in this game, but cant stand 1998 graphics. One issue I have with this game is the immense length of the level "Surface Tension". This level may be the majority of your playtime in this game and it feels super unfun at times. However, the rest of the levels (except maybe a few at the end) are a blast to play and amazing fun. I had an amazing experience with this game and would definitely recommend it through the Valve Complete Pack.

  6.1 hrs on record. Don't trust that, its clearly wrong haha. Half-life is what started it for me. Yeah, sure, I could say Doom is what started PC gaming for me (and of course you can't forget Quake, Wolfenstein, Redneck rampage, etc) but Half-Life is what locked me firmly in place. I still think of the times back then when I used to wake up at 6am on a Saturday to play some Half-Life and Starcraft and watch Pokemon. That feeling is something that I can't replicate today. Perhaps its nostalgia but that carefree feeling of being a kid and enjoying such an insane game is one of my fondest memories of growing up. Not only was the single player insane to my ten year old mind back then but the countless mods that spawned because of this game and the fun times I had.. Some that immediately come to mind: Pirates, Vikings and Knights Vampire Slayer Battlegrounds The Specialists Brainbread The list is long and goes on and on. Yeah yeah, don't worry. I didn't forget about CS. That's reserved for it's own review. I still have floppy disks filled with updates, skin packs and bots that I downloaded from csnation. Any of you remember counter-crap? RzE? Rizzuh? Lungfish? The infamous cheating clan that'd you'd occasionally run into? :P I recently cycled through some of the older games like Deathmatch Classic, Team Fortress and Day of Defeat. I was pleasantly surprised to see people still playing them. It just goes to show you that Half-Life and any of its mods will continue to stand the test of time. Lord Gaben, I am who I am today because of you. I wish you good health and a long life. Thank you!

  So, it's been a while now, huh? I was a kid when Half-life was released, and of course, I've played it all through, maybe a dozen times. But only now, when I'm at the half-life age myself, with wife, two kids, a job where I need to speak to people ten hours per day... I finally got it. Every day when I don't need to speak seems like a blessing. So, people, cut your jokes about mouthless Gordon. He just chose the right job. But, there is always a price...
