The idea is very good. It reminds me of the DLC for Kingdom Come where you get to arbitrate disputes. It also draws massive inspiration from papers please. Unfortunately, the bribe mechanic seems completely untethered from the decision making. The crimes repeat all the time. There is a lot to like, but so much more to not like. I hope this gets better but I am not betting on it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCnKNYXBR8U

The Game is not as easy as i thought. There is much more behind a simple idea. For what it is it is fun and a price of ~ 7 euros is not much. The Game motivates but only briefly. There is much more potential in this Game that could have been extracted. I can conclude, yes it is fun, but only for a short time. But honestly, it's okay for the price. I would be happy about further updates.

This game is horrible. Just horrible. Like they tried to copy the success of Papers Please without ever having played it. I could live with the lack of any explanation for how the game works. Like, none at all. Not even a help menu as far as I could see. Still, I can figure stuff out, and the gameplay really is stupid simple. I could live with the horrible 3d graphics, though they are really badly done and completely unnecessary. I mean, really, why not just make it a 2d game? That's all the rage with indy retro games now. But hey, whatever, I've enjoyed games with worse graphics. And maybe even with worse audio. So whatever. The real killer is that the gameplay is horrible. Each case is presented with almost no background. There are no witnesses called, documentation reviewed, or anything. Just a (badly animated) person, a short note about what they did, and they give a short statement. Usually one sentence, which is often a confession and excuse in one. Though if it’s not, there’s no way to verify if they’re lying or not. People don't even make personal appeals or beg. Very unsatisfying for a legal game. Also, accepting bribes seems to be a total gamble and you may get caught for doing so at any point, which is an instant game over. There may be a deeper mechanic to this, but without any explanation of how things works, it’s not really evident. Also, you have to take bribes or your family dies. Instantly. Didn’t make the necessary number of commie bucks one day? Bam, someone’s dead. Starved, or died from a lack of medicine, or something. How does that even make sense? Oh, and for a bonus, you can easily get yourself assassinated for making unpopular judgments on the first day. Just one day, and a few cases. And the assassin just walks up in front of your armed guards and shoots you. Because animating something better was too much bother? Bleh! In short, it lacks depth. Or, really, any mechanic other than accepting bribes and guessing how the public, or the state, will view a decision. On the bright side, you can have someone executed and they’re shot right at your desk, blood-spatter and brain matter flying at you in a gory red cloud. So that’s sorta amusing… the first time or two.

This game has a lot of potential to it, in addition the perfect setting and concept. However, in the current state, I cannot see myself telling someone that this is a must have. I feel with more updates this will be a great game. The idea of using the Soviet era works well for anyone with an interest in history, and many of the crimes have an air of truth to them that would make the player feel that they are in a totalitarian government on the verge of revolt if the party and people are not pleased. Yet the stories and cases repeat themselves frequently, I even had the Italian case back to back with the same excuse and bribe offer. I like the three judgement options, but feel as if there could be some more depth for them. For example, a murderer who confesses is sentenced to death, the option of a public execution or one in the court could be offered and reactions adjusted. Same for those in the labor camp, perhaps a choice of time could be offered would soften the blow to the groups who are not pleased with that choice. The bribe mechanic is what I feel to be the weakest part of the game. I understand the purpose to it, but it has no connection to the rest of the game. Criminals offer a wide variety of bribes, such as a Western journalist offering 0 rubles while a homeless squatter offering 125+ rubles. Taking bribes and being caught is completely random, the acceptance of one less than 30 seems to get me caught more often than the ones over a 100. Also, the constant shortage and need to take bribes or accept contracts (which are often ludicrous such as kill nine to get 120 or kill three to get 429) doesn't sit well from a game perspective. To fix this, perhaps offer an evening section where you have a choice of what to do with the accumulated bribe money from the day and days prior much like another game this was based on, Papers Please. As for accepting bribe, there could be another meter to show if suspicion is being raised about the finances of the local judge and it could cause the player to consider how much money they should take in bribes. The loyalty meters could also play into effect. If the player is in good graces with the party, they could over look bribes or offer contracts (such as the need to send three from the day to the labor camps as the newspaper shows the construction of the roadway in need of laborers or to execute four from the day to meet Stalin's quota of rouges purged) to boost income. Popularity with the people could see more generous bribes, extra rations donated at the end of the day, or more detailed court cases with witness statements for or against the accused. At the current point in time, it is just a 'who will kill me' rating. There is no desire to get strongly in favor with one group beyond achievements, just to keep them at least appeased. So while this game is fun and bug free beyond the need to resize it after every session, which other reviewers have pointed out, I feel as if there needs to be some improvement. Great work so far.

EDIT: This game has not been updated since release. Nicholas Rizzo is a con artist, DO NOT BUY HIS GAMES. This game can be really fun and has a unique and intriguing concept, however it simply isn't worth the money in it's current state. For starters, the game makes no attempt to disguise unity assets and that alone makes it seem very amateur. I understand that this is effectively an indie game made by one person, but I still can't shake the vision. Second, the gameplay is very confusing and frustrating, and gets bland after a while. The decisions you make in the cases (labor camp, death, innocent) impact your relation with the government and the people, but most of the results for said choices make little to no sense, or are blatantly obvious right v wrong decisions like someone who killed their kids and said "THEY BLED LIKE PIGS" in their statement. Also, finding a person caught showing illegal american films to people will have NO effect on the people's relation but will absolutely destroy your government relation. So in most cases, the choices are nothing but gambles. This could easily be fixed by adding extra additions to the cases like petitions from the people in regards to the case you can read or special notes from the government, and maybe you'd have to figure out whether or not said notes are genuine so there's still critical thinking involved. What is also a gamble is the game's bribery system that makes even less sense. For every case you get, you'll get the choice to take a bribe to get money to feed your family, however the bribes have literally zero context as to who's giving them and why, meaning whether or not you take the money has no bearing on the verdict you can give. You also might get caught taking bribes and executed, which means the whole system is basically another gamble. There's also little you can do to interact with the cases other then the verdict. You can't call witnesses, examine evidence outside of the statement and file with a basic explanation, question defendants (outside of their one sentence statement), or many other things that judges usually do. This makes the game very weak on this alone. However, this game still seems promising and could potentially become something very great with the right polishing and development. But until that day comes, save your money.
