The Pink Floyd group was born in Cambridge, as the evolution of a small group of music fans, 'Architectural Abdams' (formerly 'Sigma 6'), which owed their name to the fact that most of its members studied architecture in the Polytechnic University of London.

The components of Pink Floyd, at that time, were: Nicolas Mason, Roger Waters, Richard Wright, Clive Metcalf, Juliette Gale and Keith Noble. When Clive and Juliette left the group, they were joined by Roger Keith 'Syd' Barret.
