3D Atomic Models is an educational technological resource composed of a mobile application and an activity guide, designed to support the learning experience with augmented reality, allowing the user to enrich their experience in the real world with a technological device. In this way, the tangible physical elements are combined with virtual elements thus creating an augmented, interactive and real-time reality.

The activity guide includes the markers to be read by the mobile application with which it is possible to access 3D models through augmented reality, each of which represents the most important atomic models in the history of atomic theory. The application is designed to be used with a mobile device such as smartphone or tablet.

3D atomic models is a technological resource that can be used in teaching and learning activities by teachers and students of both secondary education and higher education, especially in those subjects that consider basic contents of chemistry since it is a fundamental content related to the atomic theory, and allows to understand abstract aspects, structurally, about the behavior of atoms. Similarly, this application can be used by people interested in learning scientific content.

3D atomic models is a development of the Laboratory for Research and Technological Innovation for Science Education (LIITEC-ULS), an interdepartmental initiative of the University of La Serena. The application and the activity guide are available in Spanish, English and Portuguese.
