  There comes a time in every man's life when he needs to take a look at himself in the mirror and wonder how exactly he reached such a place. You have to truly ponder what decisions you have made along the way that brought you to the place of your final reckoning. It is still unclear, even to me, even to God perhaps, why I purchased Kaiju Princess. There isn't anything wrong with it, as visual novel with hentai scenes throughout it's perfectly stellar. But when you look at it as a choice, you realize just how flawed you and the rest of humanity is. What drove me to purchase such a game? What part of my soul felt so empty that I thought an anime girl could fill it? When I look into the boundless depths of my own loneliness I see a pool of reflection. My face isn't there, there is no face. There are only tears in that pool, tears of shame and loss and confusion. If it were up to me again I know I would purchase it in a heartbeat, I know I would load it up and skip through the countless pieces of dialogue all so I can have a single morsel of pornographic images which are readily available online. Yet, despite the abundance of naked anime women waiting in the digital sphere, I still chose to purchase this game and devote hours of my life to it. That time will never return to me, it is lost just like my soul and just like the time I fear I may never find it again. There is something broken within me, something that desires sensation beyond my reach, something that whimpers every single night with the knowledge that there is no true Kaiju Princess, it is a merely an illusion. In my pursuit to find meaning in this long life, I sought the colorful lights and sounds of a world that only exists in a pop up window on my computer. I am unsure what the moral of this review is, I am unsure about my place within the universe, all I know is that no amount of anime girls can cure the vast rot that has overtaken me.

  Kaiju Princess is not a game I'd normally pick up. But I did after hearing good things about it, and I wasn't disappointed. Mostly because I went into it not expecting Shakespeare, and lo, it indeed wasn't Shakespeare. But it's still a cute game that has it's moments. In essence, Kaiju Princess boils down to a time/resource management sim with a bit of quirky dialogue in between some very NSFW encounters at the end of most days. You're responsible for taking care of Xao, an alien girl that controls Kaiju attacks in a uh... Japanese-style room boarding experience (IE. "favours" for amenities). Your goal is to balance her management requirements (cleaning the room, talking to and feeding her) while coordinating Kaiju attacks and reaching bi-monthly "fear energy" collection quotas, while occasionally having some NSFW downtimes. Initially this sounds like a lot, but it quickly becomes formulaic. My strategy essentially boiled down to cleaning at the start of each day if the room wasn't perfect, or just leaving it if it was. You attack the city twice each day, prioritizing the highest-level energy centres first & misc resources after, than talking to and feeding Xao at the end. If you had to clean in the morning than that's it for the day, if you didn't than you can engage in a quick H-scene. Repeat until you hit your quota, which you'll usually reach 2-4 days before your deadline, than spend the rest of the time as you wish (usually with very long H-scene-filled days). And that's it, the core loop boils down to pretty much that exact formula. Sure there are a few things to watch for, like for example you might hit a low-impact area at a certain time of the week to get a new outfit for Xao to wear, or have to manage not entirely depleting a specific area of stability, but in truth this game really isn't hard. Even getting money for items isn't that hard - there's the ability to work a day job on the side for extra money, but frankly this is an entirely redundant feature, as you get more than enough by just being smart with your Kaiju attacks. I almost always had enough to buy whatever upgrades I wanted when they became available, or shortly thereafter. In terms of writing, well like I said it's not Shakespeare, but it's charming enough. You're an awkward shut-in type that has to get used to living with people (and suddenly have to manage potentially world-ending Kaiju attacks, as is standard Japanese tradition), and Xao is an aloof alien that slowly learns about human culture. Your relationship starts awkwardly but progresses into a more affectionate one. Most days there are little slice of life bits & small lessons on human culture, with the last few days before quota being concentrated on worrying about meeting the deadline/projected quotas. Which was a little humorous considering I'd always met them days before, and the game never accounted for this. Regarding the H-scenes... well they're pretty vanilla. The base one is very well animated, but by the end of the game there's not much else to do with it. The motions are nice but get pretty repetitive... especially later on when your stamina is built up, it takes an unfortunately long time to reach climax, to the point where buying the one store item that increases your endurance feels like a downgrade. There's really not much you can do "experimentation-wise", just caressing certain parts of her body and a fairly standard mating press animation. And I don't even mean a lack of stuff like using different parts of the body or trying to be intimate from behind, like there's even a lack of oral-related things in this game. Which on one hand I kinda respect, but on the other find completely bizarre, considering it seems to be a staple aspect in virtually every other NSFW game out there. There are a few random scenes that sometimes happen at the end of the day, but these are usually variations on a single riding scene, which again are enjoyable but get a little repetitive later on. I think you're maybe supposed to spice things up a bit with the different outfits, but honestly in that department I'm a very boring person - one of the store teasers showed a NSFW scene in a bathtub, so I used the swimsuit a bit hoping that scene would unlock naturally (which never happened), but otherwise once I unlocked the "birthday suit" option early into the game, that was the one I left on for pretty much the entirety of the runtime. In conclusion, Kaiju Princess is decently cute, with a somewhat awkward but serviceable enough story, and core gameplay loop that does the job, but is easily exploitable once you know what you're doing. NSFW content is honestly pretty vanilla, very well animated but not a lot of it, and by the end drag on for a little bit too long. One last interesting note is that, by the look of the end-screen concept art, it kinda feels like this game had a much more SFW vibe than what we ended up with. Not entirely sure if that's true or not, but that's kind of the impression I got. Nothing to do with the final critique, just... interesting, if true. Overall: cute, decent enough story, well-animated but pretty vanilla and without much in the way of variation. Gets a little repetitive in the end, but doesn't drag on for so long to leave a bitter taste in your mouth. Worth a recommendation.
