Recursos do Close Me

You wake up, not remembering what dream you had last night. What time is it? Does that matter? This is a simple exploration game. Or at least, that's what I'd like you to believe. Different people experience different things in their lives, and that's reflected in this game. Things come and go, fleeting moments that are easy to miss. What causes things to come into existence? Were they always there, or do they only exist once they're perceived? There's more to life than death. If you don't find anything, close me. You digging through my secrets is unpleasant to me. You might get curious and decide to open me again, but maybe it'd be best if you didn't.

To-Do List:

  • Open me

  • Wake up

  • Go outside

  • Smell the flowers

  • Stare at the horizon

  • Come back inside

  • Go get a cup of water

  • Contemplate life

  • Go back to bed

  • Close me

  • ...

  • Open me again?

  • ???

Close Me is a shy game with simple goals. It's a moving sketchpad of depressing color palletes. Even the main mechanic of the game is sad. In order to progress ahead you have to exit the game after doing certain tasks. These include, inspecting a blank crumbled up note in your bathroom toilet, or simply going to bed. Your character is faceless, but who cares? It feels like the game is crying because it's in a constant state of sorrow. This game has a weird quality where it depresses your mood on a very visual level. Routinary levels with washed out blue and red hues really incentivize the player to quit the game and go to sleep. And in a weird way, that's effective because that's how you advance the plot, by exiting. The only problem is that sometimes you close it, and never open it. It just stays there in your virtual shelf, collecting dust by the megabites. I bet it's is sad about that too. So yea, play Close Me, a game that captures the aesthetics of depression, or don't. The game probably doesn't want you to play it, or it does, either way it's still sad.

Okay...so.. I was initially drawn to the idea of solving this little mystery...the game changing every time you do different things...etc. But I never felt scared, creeped out, or anything other than....annoyed. I felt like I was just trying to FINISH the game. It's like...when you start a new series and you're not into it but you feel like you should at least finish the season your on because you wasted enough time watching the first couple of episodes. (....Too honest?) Anyway--I see that some people enjoyed it, power to you, but...the whole thing just felt a bit too juvenile for me... I wanted to like you---but I think I'm going to have to break up with this game.

Close Me seems pretty basic at first - and it is. You wake up, you check out your house, interact with a few things and head back to bed. Then what? You do as the title says - close it. Open it back up and maybe things have changed a bit. Maybe there'll be a new area to explore, something new to interact with, or who knows what else? This premise is almost addicting - having me come back more and more just to see what else would happen. As far as negatives go - you're not left with much in the way of what to do next. I still haven't explored everything yet and I'm not sure if it's just based off random code when I open a new session, if I need to interact with things in a certain way, if I just need to play more, etc. But that could also be a positive - who wants their hand held the entire time? Graphically the game isn't the prettiest either but I'd wager that's not your main concern with a title such as this. Overall it's easy to recommend Close Me. It's a basic game with an interesting premise, some groovy music, and it's dirt cheap. If you don't like it at least you didn't break the bank finding out. I play a few days here (no commentary cause my mic wasn't working): https://youtu.be/vcPWwzGQo_w

A very unique game. Despite the game's whole concept of "waiting", it is still paced very well that lets the player get scared when they least expect it. It is a very subtle horror game that is great for chills and sleepless nights. But then again, I am a massive scaredy cat. Just when you are about to forget, it reminds with haunting music that sounds amazing.

I like this game more than I thought I would. It is a kind of puzzle/horror game with an interesting story behind it and a unique gameplay mechanic. What I mean by story is not told in dialogue but in the environment. I say it is a good game at a good price. I am interested in how this game will end. Here is me playing the first few lets call them Days of the game if you would like to see how it plays. https://youtu.be/-dE8HQavds0

Full disclosure: I have not "beaten" this game yet, and to be honest, it has some problems. I'm recommending it on the grounds that Yai Gameworks is a talented, risky, and creative developer who deserves to be on more peoples' radars and the fact that this is just a dollar means, even if you end up not liking it, it's still going towards a worth while dev and is so unique that it must be played. The gimmick here is that every time you close and open the game, something has changed. It's a wicked trait, and each cycleyou theoretically solve more puzzles and dive further into the game's abstract but simple story. I love the set up and structure of this. The problem for me is that the puzzles are... just too obtuse. Like, so goddamn obtuse that sometimes you solve one without realizing what you've done or what kind of effect it has on the game. I've been digging on the sparse user discussions and it only gets trickier as you go on, and there are puzzles that are dependent on the real life time of day. It's frustrating knowing that, because without any guide or some kind of in game hint system, it's impossible to know if you're just missing something that's staring you in the face or if you need to play at a different time of day. Like I said, though, Yai is a dev that needs as much support as they can get, and buying this game, despite how difficult it is to figure out, is a step towards them getting more exposure. I just wish they hadn't gone overboard with the cryptic nature of this title.

I downloaded this game on sale for next to nothing, and I expected just as much. However, after a year of playing the game on and off, I finally figured out what this game is all about. It's an abstract puzzle game with some horror elements. It's not for everyone, but I would 100% recomend.

Okay so I just finished "close me" as I am writing this review for it and wow...it's a real crazy game with a loooot of twist's and turn's, it tell's a story that gradually get's darker and darker as you piece it together in this almost dark souls style story telling as you start to learn everything that's going on isn't what it first seemed through the world itself and it's environments, heck I thought at first it was the story of a lazy kid who kept leaving thing's open and not closing them, boy was I super wrong there dood. The gameplay is very much a puzzle but you have everything you need in the game itself to help you along with those puzzles, with only one particular puzzle being hard as it doesn't really tell you quite what to do along with a little diversion in the clue itself, other than that this game is very clever mixed with a fun amount of exploration and great sounds/kinda voices as usual, the developer who has done such greats as "close your eyes" and "red haze" dood. So to get to the point, the game is fantastic quality for it's price and keep's with the unique style of the developer and by unique I mean his (or her I actually never checked dood?) random style of game, done with his random style of art, done with a new gimmick as is his/her thing, it's a steal doods.

A clever little game that sort of flaunts its gimmick from the onset and benefits from it as a result. Rather than play coy to it's fourth wall mechanic, it thrives off putting it up front and getting the player to experiment with it. Creepy, weird, and fun to toy around with. And, like, a dollar. I mean come on.
