MUST READ BEFORE PURCHASING!
Zoo Tycoon: Ultimate Animal Collection is not similar to Zoo Tycoon 1 & 2. This one is like "Drag & Drop" predesigned Zoo Tycoon. You can not create a zoo from "scratch." All you do in this game is plop down enclosures and guest areas, then connect them with pathways. Clearly, this game was made for Xbox Players only. The UI is not suited for PC. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2458844030
Pros:
- Varieties of Each Animal Species and Family to choose from 🐘 - Beautiful Graphics 😍 - Mini Exhibits 🐍 - Animal Camera 🦁 - Interaction with Animals 🦏 - Driving Zoo Buggy is Fun! - Multiplayer.
Cons:
- Can't Create Your Enclosures Or Areas - Very Less Control Over Creation of Zoo - There are no Marine Animals - Limited amount of Decoration. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2458842807 So why we recommend Zoo Tycoon: Ultimate Animal Collection? If you are Zoo/Animal Lover, then you'll enjoy this game. Especially kids going to love this! It has good graphics, pleasant environment. You can get relaxed while looking at nearly 200 animals!🦁🦒🐯🦏🐘 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2458843373 We don't recommend this game if you are Zoo Tycoon 1 & 2 Fans and want to build and control a zoo. You can get Planet Zoo for that type of Zoo Creation.😊👍
Thanks for reading, if you found this helpful please 👍 🔔 Browse more similar Reviews, Screenshots and follow our Curator Page 🤝 Join our Steam Group ❤ Visit our site here for Gaming News, Updates, Guides and More!😍
It's a fun little game, and a decent way to blow an hour or so, however...this is NOT what fans of the old Blue Fang Zoo Tycoon games would expect, or be happy with. In this game, you get many varieties of each animal species and family to choose from, with greater variety per species than previous games. HOWEVER, there are fewer families/species available over all. In the original Zoo Tycoon games, you could fully take creative control over designing and shaping an exhibit and the space available for the zoo, using all open area available to you on your map. In this game, you have a menu with premade habitats you simply plop down where able on the map that you can only slip one of 4 food station types or one of several toys into. The small habitats hold 3 slots for such items, like a food station, a cleaning station, and a play item. You don't get to decide the terrain height, where pools of ground water appear, what plants grow in the exhibit, or where the rocks are. Exhibits and buildings alike exist as little islands with connectable pathways surrounded by walls, resulting in many empty gaps of unusable space on your map. The smaller animals like reptiles and primates must live in tiny mini exhibits that you simply build and adopt animals to. They don't include any means of interaction with the animals or enriching them, and they simply move on predetermined paths in the exhibit. This can look very silly when the animals in question are giant monitor lizards in the equivalent of a kiddie pool in terms of size. The game looks beautiful, but does lack much of the creative control the originals gave the player. Online features are great fun, which this does have. You can build and manage the zoo with a friend. Although, I still prefer the old Blue Fang Zoo Tycoon 2 over this, this is still an enjoyable game. It just feels like a shadow of what it could have been, or like it's been dumbed down.

They have taken all of the creativity out of Zoo Tycoon. You can no longer create your own enclosures. Everything is predesigned. I miss the older versions, more variety. Its unfortunate because the game is quite beautiful, just boring.

This is my first review of a Steam game and I feel pretty bad that it's negative, but I'm so bummed out by this game! There isn't any deep customization at all. It is a significant departure from how the original Zoo Tycoons were played. I was really excited when I saw this game announced and was looking forward to hours of in depth customization and... 40 minutes of boring tutorials later, this game turned out to be very one dimensional and very disappointing. You literally just drag and drop pre-made exhibits into a big empty map. Minimal path placement control, minimal exhibit editing, minimal visual gratification from gaining more guests, it's just unfortunate all across the board. When you "upgrade" facilities, your stats are the only thing that change! They couldn't even draw a fancier version of the facility and have it change into that when you upgrade? I muscled through the tutorials hoping that the freedom of sandbox would help make things more interesting... nope. Gameplay completely aside, my screen "pulses" when in first person mode. I could deal with that if the game was good but... it will probably be the first ever Steam game that I refund.

If you played Zoo Tycoon as a kid in the early 2000s and liked it - do yourself a favor and forget this game exists. You don't build the exhibits. You don't change the terrain. You don't put down the fencing. There is no trial and error. You can't accidentally release animals or dinosaurs into your park. I tried to add an animal and I was told my exhibit was full. This isn't Zoo Tycoon anymore. It's Zoo Keeper Simulator. And if that're what you're into then go for it. But honestly this game sucks.
Zoo Tycoon is an okay game on its own, but compared to previous installments by Blue Fang Games, it's severely lacking.
I remember playing Zoo Tycoon 2 like crazy well over 10 years ago. And feeling nostalgic, I saw this title and decided to pick it up thinking that I would finally play the Zoo game I've been missing since the last one published in 2004. Unfortunately, it didn't satiate the nostalgic feeling. It only made me feel kind of bummed out that it's in the same franchise as the first two. This game feels like how I would say: "Lipstick on a pig." Pretty to look at, but feels pretty shallow beyond that. It completely lacks the heart and feeling that I came to know playing the original two.
Positives:
+ Beautiful graphics. + Great audio. + Being able to run around your zoo and explore as a person.
Negatives:
- Complete lack of customization beyond globally changing a few options like trees and pathways. - All exhibits are prebuilt. Forget about changing the terrain, placing water, trees, etc. Some are even direct copies of another climate, just a different color of terrain. (Looking at you Outback and Grasslands.) - *Everything* is prebuilt. And in odd shapes. You just drop down the concession/exhibit and attach pathways. (Why in the world are some food stands the same size as some of the large exhibits?) The zoo always looks like a haphazard mess. If the guests could talk, I bet a lot would be wondering if the design was inspired by a maze. - As for pathways, you can't just place them anywhere. They have to connect in certain positions and there is a maximum amount of pathways you can connect to one exhibit/concession. - You *cannot* freely explore your exhibits. Yes, it might have seemed a little unrealistic in the first two games to just be able to open a gate and walk into a cage full of tigers, but I liked that closeness. Being able to walk around, check out my animals, clean up poop and refill the food as I wanted. Now you have to stand at the fence and use the in game "photo mode" to view the animals close up. - The self-cleaning animal stations are obnoxiously huge and awful looking in the exhibits. I disliked putting them in, but it was necessary to keep the animal happiness up. Personally, I felt like there was no challenge and a lot of repetition. Doing the same few things over and over again. All parks looked the same. There was really nothing to make it feel like "your own" zoo. There is no replay value after a few hours of play. As a standalone game this could be decent for people who are new to the "zoo management" genre. But by labeling it as a new game in the Microsoft series, it only made it an even more soulless shell of what it could be, instead of taking what was great before and building on that. Save your money if you're looking to relive your Zoo days from the early 2000's. I dug out my old Zoo Tycoon 2 CD's and installed that instead.

I bought this game hoping it would be like the classic Zoo Tycoon that I grew up playing. I was very, very wrong and I quickly learned that this is NOT the game I was expecting. Don't judge a book by its cover, this game isn't for those looking for a nostalgic experience. I didn't even get through the first tutorial before I went off to make my own zoo. I very quickly picked up the controls because this is much indeed a dumbed down tycoon game with very little challenge involved. I grew up playing rollercoaster tycoon and the original zoo tycoons and I have to say, This game is more for a 8-10 year old. You can't build your own paths, exhibits, or even so much as change the shape of the pre-made exhibits that you must use. The best that you can do is change the scenery of the park around the exhibits to give it a different look. This game is so simple, so innocent, so not for those who remember what Zoo Tycoon once was.

I decided to give this game a go after I purchased my new gaming rig since I played Zoo Tycoon 2 growing up. I was completely and utterly disappointed. I suppose most might be aware of the similarities Zoo Tycoon 2 had to the Sims. This game stripped that away, leaving a block-based system where you place pre-made exhibits on the map. You cannot design the shape of exhibits and structure the paths the way you want to as everything is done for you automatically. The original Xbox version of which this is a port had Kinect features shoved into it that penalized you for not using them, usually in the form of fines. While this version removed the Kinect features by replacing them with a keyboard and mouse control system, the penalties remain. Furthermore, the ability to go into first person and walk through exhibits is gone. You are unable to click on an animal or visitor and see what they're up to. I feel that Microsoft and the new studio ruined the franchise. Zoo Tycoon 2 appealed to wider audience but they have made this game simplistic in order to appeal to younger audiences in a manner that alienates older audiences and veterans of the franchise. For that, I cannot recommend this game; instead, I think you ought to look into Planet Zoo which has a hefty price but will offer more of the experience you loved about the first and second Zoo Tycoons with better graphics to boot.
