Start to finish a brilliant game; like playing a grea novel. Fantastic, gripping story that leaves you eager to see what will happen next. Absolutely recommend this shocking adventure...

Great old-school graphic adventure with an interesting plot and some shocking twists in the story as we dig deeper in the mystery that lies in there. It's an incredibly and challenging dark story recreated in a retro style environment. Also the puzzles in the game are nicely clever and make the player have a good time solving it.

This is a classic point-and-click adventure game with the standard bizarre inventory and dialogue puzzles. Some puzzles are pretty clever, but most are uninspired or kind of weird. What makes The Samaritan Paradox stand out is its two concurrent storylines: the political thriller in the present (investigating the death, searching for the novel) and the fantasy story segments (the chapters of the novel). However, the ending slaps you in the face with incredibly dark/sensitive subject matter in a really crass and weird way and that soured the whole experience for me. I am angry now even seeing this game in my library.

worst adventure game I've played in a long time, really bad, technically the worst one I've ever played (music stops as soon as voice acting starts, controls suck, horrible scrolling, washed out graphics, horrible font, locks up when you alt tab out of the game to read a walkthrough, almost no sound effects), puzzles are just weird, not smart, not crazy, just weird, I dont understand what I'm doing most of the time. The mood of the game is a mix of boredom and depression, I hate it with all my guts. The structure sucks too, for instance you get a new location on your map, want to go there and the game wont allow it because you can still do something in your current location, I could go on and on, I really dislike this game and stopped playing it and I never do this when I've started an adventure game. I really love pnc adventures, but this one I simply cant play and I enjoy the worst ones just because I love the genre.

About me: I love adventures, especially the old Lucas Arts games. I liked it. Good, difficult puzzles, some frustratingly so, but ultimately all with very sound, everyday logic. Exception are a very few time sensitive puzzles. The story and characters are for the most part very well written. I particularily liked the "two worlds" gameplay, which offsets the rather serious and sombre tone of the main story. Do not expect a lighthearted experience. The retro pixelated look is okay, backgrounds are nicely painted and animations well done. Minor annoyances are the idiosyncracies of the dialogue system, where sometimes you just have to click through all the possible topics until you find the one that actually does advance the story. Also some inconsistencies in characters statements when old topics don't get updated responses after major plot developments. I do however, have two major issues with the writing: For one, the developing friendship between the two main characters felt rather forced to me. The other is
that the surprising last minute story twist wasn't surprising for me. It also feels like it has only been put in for the emotional impact. The result is that it is rather jarring, but not because you are shocked by what has happend, but because it feels completely disconnected from the rest of the main plot.
Conclusion: Do play it, and resist the lure of the walkthrough.

Recommended for fans of point and click adventures, Story, graphics and dialogue are all passable, if a bit lackluster. The UI and certain puzzles can be frustrating at times and the ending felt a bit rushed and out of place but overall I thought the game to be pretty enjoyable.

while the story is well developed and intriguing with some twists and turns, but there are two very serious problems with this game. The first problem is the gameplay, which is filled with obtuse puzzles, pixel huntings and frequent quick-timed actions that are extremely frustrating. The second problem with the game is that it is so indie and was designed and programmed primitively. In the middle of the story, the game froze and gave an error, so I had to restart my laptop. the main characters and general atmosphere are also so dull and depressing that it's kind of made me depressed as well. I recommend watching a walkthrough of the game's story instead of playing it yourself.

i review games on steam after i 100% complete them! check out my reviews to see all the games i have completed! the samaritan paradox is a 2014 point & click adventure game published by screen 7. i do consider this a solid entry in the p&c adventure genre. it has flaws but i enjoyed the game despite them. the game does have some unique features that gave the game a nice changer of pace in setting, characters, etc. getting some of the flaws out of the way, the voice acting and dialogue can be a little underwhelming. VA is monotone and everything feels more "cheesy detective movie" rather than a actually enthralling/clever noir story. however, i did just play another p&c adventure game right before this and this game blows that game away in the VA/story department (and in every aspect to be fair) so i guess there is definitely a level of quality to this game compared to other games in the genre. there's also an annoying feature where the item bar pops up when you move your mouse to the bottom of the screen, and you'll accidentally pop it up when you don't mean to probably well over a hundred times if you play the game all the way through. it really should've had a fixed bar with the interactive setting just also fixed to end right above it, but ultimately you can deal with it while completing this game. the puzzles and gameplay aspects other than stuff i mentioned above are actually pretty good. the puzzles can be pretty hard and have a nice variety, i saw someone compare those aspects of this game to classic p&c adventures like syberia 1+2 and i like that comparison a lot. overall, the samaritan paradox is a pretty solid point-&-click adventure from 2014 that you can get for extremely cheap, and for that alone i find this worth it based on price and quality. you can easily wish-list this and eventually grab it for well under a dollar. i see that the developer has a newer game released in 2019 so i'm curious if they expanded upon/improved upon aspects found in this game. i'm also excited to play the rest of screen 7's published games as i've now played their first three games and while they're okay (with this easily being the best of the three over the cat lady and the apotheosis project so far), im curious to see how they evolve regarding games in the p&c genre, but also excited to see how they adapted to the other genres they've tackled.
