1428: Shadows over Silesia Funciones

Shadows over Silesia is a dark action adventure game with fantasy elements, set in real medieval Europe. With true historical events in the background, you can mainly expect challenging puzzles and difficult battles, but also stealth scenes and important decisions. You will come across possessed devil worshipers, sexual demons, and beasts from hell, as well as creatures well-known from European mythology.

Dark fantasy story

Europe is in the middle of religious upheaval and many preachers predict that the end of the world is near. The year is 1428 and the Hussites have just set out on their Silesian campaign. These heretics appear to be the biggest threat in the kingless country. But true evil of a completely different kind is lurking nearby and it does not intend to engage in religious disputes.

You will experience everything from the point of view of the two main characters. Hynek, a grumpy Hussite hetman who doesn't hesitate to swear or mess around with anything, and Lothar, a Hospitaller knight, a man of good education and manners who stands alongside his brethren in the front line of the Silesian defense. Each has their own motivations and views of the world around them, and different equipment and abilities. Their fates will soon become intertwined. Will they face one another, weapon in hand, or forge a fragile alliance to stand shoulder to shoulder against a far worse enemy?

Challenging puzzles

The original puzzles you will come across on your dangerous journey will most definitely be tough. Classic adventure games of the 1990s were a big inspiration. You will have to take advantage of your surroundings, look for objects, obtain information, and solve puzzles or encoded messages. Some problems can be solved in multiple ways, or they can be cleverly worked around.

Sneaking in the shadows

Sometimes you'll have to blend into the shadows and sneak past enemies to avoid being detected. Following their patrol routes and habits will help you find the best path.

Tough combat

The combat system is easy to understand but it takes practice to fully master it. Remember one thing: being outnumbered is a problem! If three or more opponents attack you at the same time, you will die! The key is to take advantage of their mistakes, wait for the right moment, and then attack. You will face not just knights, villagers, and robbers, but also various supernatural beings who are not to be underestimated.

Diverse environments

In the game, you will move around on foot as well as on horseback. You will visit various real as well as fictitious places in medieval Silesia. You will plunder villages, doggedly defend the city walls, and explore places such as secret dungeons, abandoned mines, or forbidden parts of monasteries. The action often takes place underground, in the rain, or at night, which serves to amplify the dark atmosphere and focus, which is mostly placed on the contrast of light and shadow.

Hidden coins

You will have the opportunity to search for two kinds of hidden coins. Only the best of the best will be able to collect them all. Not only will you fill your wallet with them and unlock unique achievements, but you can also occasionally use them to progress through the story.

Finally: a roleplaying game (mostly) set in a historical time period! It's a unique time period to set a game in general in: The Hussite War. The major players, the faiths, the factions are mostly real. There's some liberties taken (which will become apparent when they arise) but don't expect to run into wandering wizards or fantasy races here. I think I might have learned something about medieval times just from the intro let alone living out the experience of hospitaller knights and mercenaries. All that's very enjoyable and the graphics are charming with a deliberate angular simplicity which is complimented by ultra smooth and expressive actions. The horses especially canter and turn just like the real thing. The voice acting is top shelf! A lot of enthusiasm and deliberately accurate pronunciation of places and people. The music is moody and has a nice guitar riff from time to time to keep the energy going. Problems, there are a few though at least in the version I've played. 1: The difficulty is punishing. I realize this is probably the point but more than a few times I ran into infuriatingly tough encounters that I could not circumvent. Just two guys can whittle you down to nothing super quickly because you lose health AND energy when you block attacks. Basically someone whaling on you will eventually make it impossible for you to block, attack effectively, or even stand up. Once you're surrounded you're usually done, and enemies recover their health faster than you, attack faster than you, and if they attack you from behind you lose half your health instantly. You can't even drink potions quickly, and when you do drink potions the alcoholic content will mess with your vision. Combined with the fact enemies can flawlessly see in the dark and run without getting tired you are outmatched constantly. This is the reason I had to take a break. I was enjoying the story, but the irritating need to wait precious few seconds every reload just to see if I'd get lucky this time started to wear on my nerves. Oh, and there are escort missions with allies who don't heal quickly. Huzzah! 2: The 'gameplay' is a little thin on the ground. I liked exploring but you don't get a lot of opportunities to do so since you're usually being chased or your character will just state he doesn't want to go in a certain direction. I liked talking to people but if you wait too long your character defaults to a blank stare and the conversation ends, never to continue. Fighting was frustrating and constant, if very atmospheric. There's something undeniably awesome about drawing steel in the pouring rain...but something less awesome about then getting ganged up on and pummeled to death by peasants while their buddy fires crossbow bolts you can't block off screen. Most the missions so far boil down to 'go here' and 'collection this' or 'talk to this guy'. This means a majority of the beginning of the game is just riding around on a horse from place to place doing nothing else. It's kind of fun to visit the countryside or the battlefield, but that's all you're doing. I had one side objective to talk to a guy and did so gladly as I wanted to get deeper into the history of the story. The problem was I had a bunch of options I wanted to try, but as mentioned before if you wait too long the reply defaults to just no statement at all and the conversation closes forever. Also there were surprisingly few things to loot. Sometimes I located a couple coins but I never found anything to spend them on. - Anyway, I recommend this game for the sheer amount of effort and passion that went into it and because I want to encourage more historical games, especially roleplaying games! As stands the fighting is hard, but I might eventually get the hang of it and a lot of levels are just walking/riding to a place but I don't mind because of the atmosphere and the unique setting.

Overall a nice polished game with great story, art and voice acting. Gameplay is nicely balanced - mix of exploration, combat, puzzles, stealth, problem solving and more. Blend of real historical events with dark fantasy is a spot on. However, there is a lot of frustrating moments in puzzles and combat, such as unclear solutions to problems or fights that end by you getting stunlocked and killed immidiately. Still, the game is a great adventure and definitely worth a try!

This is a great game that I hope is well supported because it does a really good job at punching above its level. 1428: Shadows Over Silesia shows what the developers could do with better funding. With a great storyline, fun gameplay and puzzles and medieval/demonic/religious atmospheres it becomes reminisce of games like Kingdom Come: Deliverance combined with Diablo. That being said I could not quite finish it. In Chapter ten, there are pyramids in which you use to activate a door. I tossed one of these pyramids down a hole to see what it would do before knowing WHAT it does. The item does not respawn nor does it fall down to a separate floor that you can go to and retrieve it, I also had no previous saves that would take me as far back as I needed. So with great regret I had to finish the game via YouTube, and I was so damn close.

Graphics and music are quite good, some puzzles are challenging and that is where pros end. Gameplay in this game is pretty bad, combat system is slow and stiff, but I can forgive that since it is small indie title. What I can not forgive is a blend and random story that could have take place in any medieval times and region. We get typical fighting with skeletons, demons and devil worshippers. There is not much said about local customs and habits, important facts are spilled in unpleasant, extremely long dialogues. And final is just exhausting because location design is just horrible. I dunno why someone decided to do a game in 1428 year in Silesia and then just did random low fantasy destroying devil story, but that is so disapointing.

This is surprisingly great despite its rather cheap looking graphical style. I'm very happy I found this one!

The game has a lot of promise, the story has a real grey on grey morality feel about it and the whole time period around the events is massively under shown in games and other medias, the voice work is solid and the lore in game is good, unfortunately the title is let down by massively clunky combat and camera systems which suck the fun out of the game, you will die more often than not to having the camera facing the wrong way then anything else and attacks feel slow and clunky with sluggish controls that turn combats into listless 1v1 fights or confused messes in larger melees as you madly bash the attack button to stop being overwhelmed by a wave of attacks, your armour does nothing from what I’ve seen and the block system is underwhelming. Overall I can’t really recommend this title, even thou the setting is really interesting and the plot has a lot of promise its all let down by clunky combat and camera controls, even on sale I find it hard to recommend the game as I found my enjoyment being sucked out during play because of the constant struggle against the game system mechanics.

When it coms to accessibility options for the Visually Impaired this is one of the best games out there. Very impressive. Text to Speech accross the board. Options for more time in mini games. Accessibile specific sub games. Sound effects when leaving screens. The list goes on. All this in a RPG written in Unity. It goes to show, if it can be done in this game there is no excuse for other games. Whilst I have not plated long things do seem to work well so far. Well done to the Devs will keep an eye out for future releases.

This game is bad in every sense. Horrible controls that lead to awful clunky combat, terrible stealth that feels like a afterthought, and a boring story that quickly devolves into demons and skeletons. That acting is bad, the sound design is a mess, and the graphics make runescape look like art. Every 2 seconds in this game there is a puzzle where you just end up going through your inventory picking things at random to see if they work. There are 12 chapters and by the time you complete the 3rd you see that 80% of players have already dropped it. I played the game so you dont have to. Its not worth your time at all. i just wish i could get a refund, i cant believe i spent money on this mess

It's kind of a weird game, but not fully in the good sense (as would be in case of, say, Disco: Elysium). The graphics is simplistic, but the art style is excellent. The plot is highly reminiscent of the old classic Darklands. The problem is that the gameplay is quite thin: lot of walking around shifting between torch and sword, fighting boring duels - where you fight the terrible controls more than the enemies. The fighting and camera are really clunky and it just doesn't work well (can't unsheathe if animation is playing, rotating camera mid-fight means your character turns as well, e.g. gets hit). The story progresses so slowly it's hard to get engaged with it - because clearing endless dull dungeons in between kills my interest for what's going on (and thus far there are no plot twists, it's all fairly basic "devilish conspiracy"). Minigames are hit & miss (the escape on the horse was a disaster, deciphering letters is great fun). It feels like it could be a great game, but it's trying to reinvent too much and ends up being frustrating instead. I loathe to give bad rating to a product of love, but I gave up on it halfway through, so just can't recommend it at this stage.

+ 90s gameplay + tough but rewarding + thoughtful work of one solo developer + specific combat system (you just need to step back after every attack) - specific combat system (until you learn to step back after every attack) - occasional obstacles you may not pressume 8.5/10!
